Based in historic Oxford, immerse yourself in English language, culture & history

Homestay

Typically lengths of Stay are one to two weeks. Students usually arrive on Sunday after 2 PM and depart on Saturday before midday.  You can also stay over a weekend.

My house is a 3 bedroom cottage with a beautiful English garden where we often play croquet or swing ball with our students.  You will have at your disposal a private & comfortable double bedroom with a family bathroom.  A young lady called Daniella comes and cleans the house every Friday.  You should, therefore, expect a warm and clean house. Laundry is free of charge.

Routine

I provide three hearty meals a day that you will share with us.  You can expect freshly-made food every day.  Breakfast is ready at around 8.30 am, and the lessons start at 9 am.  You will have lunch with me.  Andrew works as a Product Chief Officer in Newbury.  Dinner is between 7 and 8 pm. Please visit my blog to see photos of some of the dishes we prepare, and don’t hesitate to discuss any special dietary requirements.

After the lessons, we usually have a break, and we go out on an activity in the afternoon.  I take my small dog, Saffron, on a walk in the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside every day.  It is an excellent opportunity for us to chat.

In the evening, you are welcome to join us to watch television, and we will always take you on any of our outings.  We will also offer you to play games such as croquet, swing ball in the garden or cards since this allows you to speak.

This is a list of what you can expect:

  • Fruits, coffee or tea available at any time of the day.
  • We make sure we don’t cook with ingredients you dislike.
  • A breakfast of your choice.
  • Private and clean double room in a warm house.
  • Laundry is free of charge.
  • Free WIFI.
  • We have Netflix and Amazon Prime accounts.
  • Nintendo Wii with games.
  • Selection of books that are graded to your level.
  • Children play area with a zip wire, table tennis, tennis courts nearby.
  • Parks and shops, including supermarkets, a chemist, a bank, a Post Office and a Costa Coffee round the corner.
  • Local bus to Oxford city centre is a few steps away from our close.

Activities

I include in the price of the homestay the following activities: walking Guided Tour of Oxford city, the sights comprise of the Bodleian Library, Sheldonian, Radcliffe Camera, University Church, St Mary’s Tower, Christchurch College, visit of Magdalen College.  In addition, I will take you on a discovery of Blenheim Palace Grounds, the Marlborough Family Estate and Birthplace of Winston Churchill.  We will go on a stroll along Thrupp river canal with its narrow boats.  You can also accompany me to the local leisure centre.   Andrew will be happy to play a game with you if you are a keen tennis player.  You could get the opportunity to play on grass in beautiful University Parks.

I usually take young learners and teens to one of the Oxford museums, the Natural History Museum is usually very popular with my guests.  Two main shopping centres are nearby, Westgate and the famous Bicester Designer Village for shopaholics.
